Prayer

Prayer For Breakthrough for Families & Situations

At Greater Hope Ministries, we believe that God’s heart is for healing—not just for individuals and families, but also for communities and nations. We are deeply convicted that while God desires healing, we also have a role to play in that process. Partnering with God in healing requires action on our part; it is not a passive experience.

We do not naively suggest that prayer alone will fix everything—that would be an unrealistic and incomplete perspective. However, we believe that God’s Word highlights several key pathways that help us align with His blessing, healing processes, and supernatural breakthroughs. Many of these pathways involve practical choices, such as seeking wisdom, cultivating healthy habits, surrounding ourselves with godly influences, maintaining a teachable spirit, surrendering unhealthy behaviours, seeking after God’s ways, humbling ourselves, and turning away from harmful heart postures. These practical steps allow us to actively partner with God in the process of healing in our lives, families, and communities.

At the same time, we recognize the power of prayer as an essential ingredient in inviting God to do what only He can do. In the Bible, we see countless examples of God working supernaturally in response to faith, such as the story of the young boy who gave Jesus his small portion of food, which Jesus then multiplied beyond what the boy could have ever imagined. Healing and breakthrough often come through this divine partnership—our willingness to give what we have and God’s ability to do the impossible.

As someone who personally experienced supernatural breakthroughs as a young adult, I can testify to the power of a praying mother. My mother was not perfect—she made mistakes—but she knew she needed God’s intervention in her children’s lives. She prayed with unwavering faith, and I believe it was this faith that, even after her passing, led to my own life-changing encounters with Jesus Christ. These encounters transformed my heart and broke the cycles of hopelessness that once held me captive.

Below, we have compiled a short list of scriptures to encourage you in your faith as you seek the Lord for a shift in your situation. We believe God has given many biblical promises regarding family restoration and inheritance for those who seek Him and put Him first. Keep reading to explore how adding prayer to your faith journey can lead to breakthrough.

Can I Pray to God for Help if I Am Not a Christian?

Yes! We believe God’s heart is for everyone to step into the fullness of His goodness and plan. The Bible says that God “sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous” (Matthew 5:45), meaning He pours out blessings regardless of whether someone has yet chosen to accept His gift of salvation. He loves all people, which is why He sent Jesus to die on the cross.

However, it’s important to understand that while anyone can pray, there are spiritual principles at play. If we pray without seeking God’s heart or surrendering to His will, we may experience limitations in what we receive. Prayer is not about accessing a “magic genie” to grant our wishes; rather, Scripture teaches that when we align our hearts with God’s purposes, our prayers become powerful and effective. If we are praying for change but resisting God’s guidance or our personal role in transformation, we may not see the answers we desire—unless, in His sovereignty, God chooses to move anyway. It is important whilst we are talking about praying as a non-believer, it is of the upmost importance that you understand prayer without salvation is merely clutching at straws. God perspective is so much bigger than ours and he knows that life on this earth is not the most important aspect of our lives, reconciliation with God through Jesus Christ and Gods forgiveness is an eternal matter that welcomes us into Gods family and secures the destination and peace of our soul.

The Power of Faith in Prayer

Prayer is about partnering with faith. Hebrews 11:1 tells us that “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Engaging in faith means choosing to believe that God is working behind the scenes, even when we cannot yet see the outcome. Throughout biblical history, we see ordinary people experiencing extraordinary breakthroughs because they chose to lean on faith. Many Christians today can testify to the ways God has answered prayers in unexpected and supernatural ways. Jesus Himself said that we need faith like a child to enter the Kingdom of God (Matthew 18:3).

How to Pray for Family Breakthrough in the Generations

If you’re looking for guidance on how to pray effectively, here are some key principles we believe in at Greater Hope Ministries:

Seek God Intimately in Prayer First

Before engaging in spiritual warfare or intercessory prayer, it’s vital to first seek God personally. The Bible teaches that God loved us before we ever chose to love Him, and He desires to bring all of creation out of brokenness and into His plan. Developing a personal relationship with God allows Him to heal our hearts and reveal areas that need transformation. The book of Deuteronomy, Chapter 28 presents us with two pathways—one leading to life and blessing while the other leads to death and the consequences of sin. When we surrender to God, He helps unravel the destructive patterns in our lives and families. If you have never prayed to accept God’s forgiveness, we encourage you to consider the prayer provided on this page. Inviting Jesus into your life is the beginning of transformation—it is a supernatural start that also empowers us for breakthrough, but He desires to walk with you daily beyond that first step.

Stand on God’s Promises

Understanding the promises God has given in His Word is crucial for prayer. While we cannot simply wish for a better reality, the Bible makes it clear that God is deeply invested in our healing and breakthrough. Learning how to declare and stand firm on biblical promises strengthens our faith in difficult seasons. There may be times when change isn’t immediate, but we are called to “fight the good fight of faith” (1 Timothy 6:12) by believing in God’s faithfulness even when we don’t see results right away.

The Bible warns that we are in a spiritual battle—there is an enemy that seeks to destroy lives and steal faith. This is why standing on God’s Word is imperative. However, standing in faith does not mean staying in unhealthy situations, expecting God to change someone else. Sometimes, God gives us wisdom and boundaries to navigate difficult relationships. He may also desire to transform us as much as He desires to transform our circumstances.

Below, we’ve listed some key scriptures that have encouraged our team as we pray for family members. These passages may resonate with you, or God may reveal additional promises from His Word that specifically strengthen your faith.

We encourage you to keep pressing into prayer, seeking God’s wisdom, and trusting in His timing. Healing and breakthrough often come through faith, persistence, and a willingness to surrender. No matter where you are in your journey, know that God hears your prayers and desires to bring restoration to your life and family.
